VAN NUYS, Vietnam — With the World Cups in South Africa and the Philippines on the horizon, Vietnam is building a new stadium that will host the 2018 World Cup.
The new stadium, which is due to open in 2022, will house the national team’s training and matchday facilities, and the national anthem will be played at half-time.
Vietnam will host a friendly match against Spain on Oct. 6 at the VN Stadium in the central city of Hanoi.
The match will be followed by a home game against the United Arab Emirates at the MTS Centre in the center of Hap Trang on Oct 13.
The next game, Oct. 19, will be against Qatar in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The stadiums have been built by Vietnamese construction company Da Cheng Dao, which will manage the project.
Da Cheng has been working with the Vietnam Football Association (VFA) on the construction of the stadium, according to a statement from the VFA.
The stadium is scheduled to be completed by 2022.
