Seattle-based Amazon is moving into hardware with the acquisition of local hardware startup House Shoping, the company said Wednesday.
The company said it plans to expand the number of employees that work for House Shop, a Seattle-area manufacturer of home goods, after the acquisition.
The new company is part of Amazon’s $15 billion acquisition of hardware company Lumber Liquidators in December.
House Shoping was founded in 2014 and has since grown to more than 10 employees and a growing online store.
The Seattle-born founders and their business partner had previously started a retail design studio that made furniture and home goods.
The new acquisition of House Shopings, a hardware startup, is the company’s third acquisition in the last three months.
Last week, Amazon said it would acquire the online retailer Flipboard for $250 million.
