Real estate agent Frank and Kim Nguyen have been living in a one-bedroom apartment in the capital city of Vientiane for about six months, and they’ve been in the market for the best apartment available.
Real estate agentFrank and Kim are both Vietnamese and were shocked to discover their one-room apartment had been listed on Airbnb and they were surprised to see the listing was still open.
The couple was surprised to learn that the apartment was listed for rent on Airbnb for a month.
Frank Nguyen told ABC News, «We had the same conversation about two weeks ago, but we weren’t sure if we should even check the listing because it’s very expensive in Vientian.
We weren’t even aware that it was for rent.»
The Nguyens said they are now looking into getting a different one-bedroom apartment, but they plan to keep searching for apartments.
«We really hope that it’s still for rent,» Kim Nguyen said.
«Because we have so many friends and family who live in this apartment, we need to be able to share the apartment.»
Real estate broker Frank Nguyen has been living at his apartment in Vien Nam since June.
The apartment is listed on the popular online rental platform.
He said they have yet to check the Airbnb listing and they hope to get a new one in the near future.
«I hope that [the listing] stays on Airbnb, so we can keep finding new apartments for rent in the city,» he said.
Real Estate agents in Vietnam told ABCNews.com they have not heard of anyone getting a rent increase, but have heard of other people in the area finding similar deals.
Vietnamese officials have expressed concern about how Airbnb deals with rent hikes, particularly in urban areas.
Last month, Vietnam’s foreign minister told the UN that Vietnam is concerned about Airbnb and other platforms, saying, «It’s a very dangerous and sensitive issue.
We want to prevent people from abusing the platform.»
Vietnam’s government has promised to investigate the complaints against the Nguyens, but Nguyen said he thinks they will be cleared if they are cleared in the future.
